    Intrinsa

    What is Intrinsa?

Intrinsa is one of the only approved female sexual dysfunction treatments specifically intended for women who develop female sexual dysfunction (FSD) after a hysterectomy (the surgical removal of the womb and ovaries). Intrinsa is a convenient patch that can be worn discreetly under your clothes, and supplies your body with a steady flow of testosterone. 70% of women in clinical trials reported that they had better sex while using Intrinsa patches. The testosterone patches were designed to stay in place, which means that you can carry out daily activities without the patch getting in your way or falling off.

HealthExpress.eu is not able to offer Intrinsa patches as a treatment option as of May 2012, after the European Commission issued a decision to withdraw the marketing authorisation for the treatment.

What are the benefits of using Intrinsa patches?

Intrinsa comes in an easy to use discreet patch, which means that you don’t have to remember to take a pill every day. These testosterone patches can be placed discreetly under your clothes, allowing you to carry on with life as normal. The patches have been clinically proven to work effectively, and most women notice a significant change in their sex drive and their ability to enjoy sex within a couple of weeks of starting treatment.

    How do Intrinsa patches work?

Testosterone is present in both men and women, and plays a very important part in a healthy sex life. After a hysterectomy, hormone production levels in general tend to fall, including testosterone levels. Intrinsa testosterone patches work by releasing testosterone into your bloodstream; restoring this balance and helping you improve your sexual desire and your overall sexual health.

    Who can use it?

Intrinsa patches should only be used if you are suffering from female sexual dysfunction as a result of a hysterectomy and you are already taking oestrogen. You should also not use this treatment if you are allergic to testosterone and if you have or have had breast cancer or any other type of oestrogen-dependent cancer.

How do I use Intrinsa patches?

The Intrinsa patch only needs to be replaced twice a week, which means you will wear each patch for three days. When applying the patch, it needs to be placed on a clean area of skin on the lower abdomen. The patches are water-resistant which means it won’t come off in the shower, bath or during any other day-to-day activity. If you forget to change your patch, just apply it when you remember and continue as normal.

    What are the side effects?

Although Intrinsa patches aren’t likely to cause side effects, some women may be more sensitive to the ingredients in these testosterone patches than others. The side effects are usually mild and reversible, and usually involve a rash in the area around the patch or mild hair growth on the chin and upper lip. If you experience any of the rare adverse effects of testosterone, such as increased acne, enlargement of the clitoris, hair loss, excessive hair growth or a deepening of your voice, you need to speak to your doctor straight away. However, it’s important to remember that taking oestrogen with Intrinsa patches significantly reduces the changes of these effects.

How can I buy Intrinsa testosterone patches?

Intrinsa patches are no longer available as a treatment option from HealthExpress.eu. We advise that you consult your doctor for further information or an alternative treatment option.
