What is Marvelon?

Marvelon is a combined oral contraceptive that’s over 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. It contains two synthetic female sex hormones that work together to alter the environment of the reproductive system and stop conception.

The Marvelon pill is known to improve acne and endometriosis and treat polycystic ovary syndrome.

If you think Marvelon is the right contraceptive for you, you may be able to buy it online from if one of our registered doctors believes it’s safe for you to use. We guarantee all medication we send is genuine and branded, and can be verified by the holograms and batch numbers on the Marvelon packaging.

What are the benefits of using Marvelon?

The Marvelon pill has been proven to improve acne and endometriosis, and to treat polycystic ovary syndrome. Other benefits, which are seen by the varying types of combined pills, include lighter, less painful and more regular periods, and more regular menstrual bleeding.

How does it work?

The oestrogen contained in each Marvelon pill stops the ovaries from releasing a mature egg because it tricks the body into thinking that ovulation has already occurred. The progestogen in every Marvelon pill thickens the mucous in the cervix and stops the womb lining from thickening.

These three actions make it almost impossible to conceive: if the sperm manage to travel through the thickened mucous and reach the womb, there wouldn’t be an egg to fertilise. If, somehow, an egg was present and the sperm could reach and fertilise it, conception is prevented because there’s nowhere for the egg to plant itself and develop.

Who can take it?

If you’re between 18 and 35 and don’t smoke, you may be able to use Marvelon. Certain conditions could prevent you from using this contraceptive, such as a history or existing case of stroke; heart attack; varicose veins; severe depression; migraines or heart failure.

Some medications may become ineffective if taken alongside Marvelon; and some may even increase in concentration or stop this pill from working properly. This is why it’s important that you mention any medication you’re using when completing your consultation.

How do you take Marvelon?

You’ll need to take one Marvelon tablet every day for 21 days, followed by a seven-day break. During this time you’ll probably experience a withdrawal bleed, though you’ll be protected from pregnancy still.

If you forget one or two pills, Marvelon will still stop conception. You should take a Marvelon pill as soon as you remember, and continue with the pack as usual. If you forget three or more pills, Marvelon will no longer be effective. You should discard the missed pills, continue with the pack as usual and use another contraceptive for the following week.

Are there any side effects?

The Marvelon pill can cause weight changes, which is a common side effect. In very rare cases it can cause chorea (involuntary movement disorder), and systematic lupus erythematosus (an autoimmune disease). Other side effects linked to use of the contraceptive pill include nausea, migraines, water retention and breast tenderness.

If you are develop side effects they are usually mild in nature and will disappear in time as your body becomes used to the hormones.
