Our Story

HealthExpress launched in 2002, when we became the first truly online clinic in the UK. Since then we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of patients to get help and treatment for a range of common medical problems.

When we first launched, we provided help for just three conditions: impotence, obesity and male hair loss. We knew a lot of people were embarrassed to go to their own doctor about these conditions, so we launched a service that allowed these people to seek help without the embarrassment of a face-to-face consultation.

At the time of launching HealthExpress, the Internet was still in its infancy and the online medical industry wasn’t sufficiently regulated. At the start of the millennium there were a large number of websites offering medication unsafely, and often illegally. We realised that people needed a reputable websites where they could receive the help they needed for these conditions, so we began working in partnership with specially trained doctors and registered pharmacies to ensure we could do just that.

Since then a lot has changed and the Internet has become something people use all the time. We’ve strived to remain at the forefront of the healthcare industry, whilst still providing people with a safe and convenient way to get treatment and advice.

When more people turned to the Internet in their search for a service that complemented the medical services available from their doctors, we could see that people wanted help with more than just embarrassing problems. They seemed to be driven by convenience, and our patients were telling us that they wanted to be able to buy more of their treatments online.

Today we’ve expanded to offer this service for a wide range of conditions, and launched a new website that offers this service throughout UK and Europe. Our new website is complete with industry-standard encryption from VeriSign, helping our patients to feel even more secure when using HealthExpress.eu.

Timeline

2002 – HealthExpress.co.uk launched. 2003 – The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is formed, providing vital regulation to the online healthcare industry. At this point we became the first website to offer a consultation service so we could ensure the safety of our patients and fully comply with the new MHRA guidelines. 2004 – The Live Chat service was launched, allow patients to get advice online as well as over the phone.
2005 – Treatments for influenza were launched, in response to the potential risks of the ‘Bird Flu’ epidemic. 2006 – A new stop smoking treatment was launched, which was proven to be more effective than any other smoking cessation aid.
2007 – We redesigned our HealthExpress website, creating a dedicated patient’s area which made it easier for patients to manage their consultations. 2008 – We partnered with a leading clinic to offer patients effective treatment to help control migraines.
2009 – We added a health news section to our website, providing patients with the latest relevant information relating to their condition. 2010 – We launched our same-day delivery service for patients living within London, and offered next-day delivery for patients in Europe, which was extended to all treatments. By 2010, the number of conditions we provided information and advice for had grown to 11.
2011 – We launched a new website, HealthExpress.eu, which offers advice, information and medication for European patients. We also partnered with an online clinic to offer a combination of discreet home testing for STIs and treatment to cure or manage the most common STIs.
