Period Delay Treatments
For women who wish to delay their periods, there is now a prescription period delay treatment available that allows this to happen safely and conveniently. If you wish to delay your period in order for you to better enjoy a holiday or special occasion, you can take advantage of the period delay treatment Norethisterone.
If you are taking contraceptive pills, delaying your period is a simple task; you simply need to take two packs back-to-back rather than taking a seven day break. For the women who choose not to take the pill, for whatever reason, there is now the option of a hormonal period delay treatment.
Norethisterone is the only period delay treatment currently available on prescription. It is a hormonal medication which acts to imitate the effects of the hormones naturally produced in the body to affect your menstrual cycle and delay your period.
This medication is first and foremost a period delay treatment, but it can also be used to treat a number of other conditions, as detailed below.
As a way to delay your period
To delay your period with Norethisterone, you need to take one tablet three times per day, beginning three days before your period would be due to start. You should continue this course of period delay treatment until you are prepared for your period to begin, though this should never be longer than two weeks.
As a treatment for the effects of advanced breast cancer
Norethisterone can be a helpful treatment for the negative effects of advanced breast cancer. Take eight to twelve tablets per day for this treatment. After a full course of the medication you will have a break, at which point you will have a withdrawal bleed.
As a treatment for heavy bleeding during periods
For women who suffer heavy bleeding during their periods, or periods that are especially prolonged, you can take Norethisterone to help. Take one tablet either two or three times a day between day 19 and day 26 of your menstrual cycle. Day one of your menstrual cycle is the first day of your period.
As a treatment for painful periods
If you experience particularly painful periods, you should take Norethisterone three times per day for 20 days. Repeat this course of treatment for three or four menstrual cycles.
As a treatment for pre-menstrual symptoms
If you wish to ease pre-menstrual symptoms, you should take either two or three Norethisterone tablets per day, starting on day 19 of your cycle and continuing until day 26. Continue this over a series of months for relief of these symptoms.
As a treatment for heavy uterine bleeding unrelated to your period
If you suffer from abnormal, heavy or continuous bleeding from your uterus while you are not on your period, you can take three Norethisterone tablets every day for ten days. With this course of treatment, the bleeding should stop in one to three days. After you stop taking Norethisterone, you will probably experience a withdrawal bleed that will last two to four days.
As a treatment for endometriosis
If you suffer from endometriosis you can treat this condition with two tablets per day. Begin this treatment on day five of your cycle. If you notice spotting between your periods, you can increase the number of tablets to four or five per day. After the spotting stops, you should go back to taking two Norethisterone tablets per day. It is possible to continue taking Norethisterone for four to six months at a time, but you should take a one to two month break after this time.
